During a BMS firmware upgrade, it is expected to see an Error 25. This is a normal part of the process. If done with a Skybox, it typically takes about 1-2 minutes at the most.
Doing the upgrade with the USB Can analyzer and the software, it takes at the most 5 minutes.
If after doing any one of these procedures, the battery screen is stuck in the Error 25, it means that it is "bricked."
This can happen by:
- Unplugging the cables during the update
- Turning the battery off during the update
- If you're doing it with your computer, and the computer goes to sleep
So, please make sure these things do not happen while you are doing an update.
But, if this happens, don't worry! We can fix it with the USB CAN Analyzer and the Controller Upgrade Tool computer software.
Need to Install the Software?
If you haven't installed the software, please follow the instructions up until the "Upgrading BMS" section on how to do it here in this article:

When you are done with the software installation, please come back to this article.
Fixing the Error 25
Now that we have the software and cable drivers installed, it is very similar to the BMS upgrade, but with some slight differences.
When you open the Project 1 application (the same one used to Upgrade All of the Controllers), this is what is going to show up:
Take your USB CAN Analyzer and cables:
Connect the USB to the computer and the square end to this side of the Can Analyzer, and keep both dip-switches down:
Connect the other cable to the Can 1 port:
The Ethernet cable connects to the COM port on the battery:
In the software, change the following values to the ones showing in the circles:
Product Type: Host
KBP: 500
Host address: 1
Select the latest firmware for the controller available, if you don't have that, download it here:
https://www.homegridenergy.com/resources
Go to the "Latest Firmware" section.
Select the firmware on the application.
This is Where It Changes
The BMS MUST be turned off.
Once the BMS is turned off, click on the connect button:
It Will Say "Connect Successful" and immediately change to "Connect Failed."
Now, this part is critical:
When you click on the Upgrade button:
Right after within 1-2 seconds, you need to turn the BMS back on!
If it is successful, the battery will do the upgrade. If not, it will say failed. If it has not worked, try the process again from step 1.
With a successful push, wait until the battery has finished upgrading and then you are done.
