Stack’d Series Battery Setup Guide for Sol-Ark inverter 8k/12k/15k

Modified on Tue, 25 Jun at 4:05 PM

This guide will help you ensure the recommended settings for your HomeGrid battery system are set on your Sol-Ark inverter.

NotePlease contact HomeGrid Customer Support at 725-373-5350 if you have any questions or need further assistance. Please contact Sol-Ark with any questions that are outside of the description of this guide.

1. Select the gear wheel icon on the upper right-hand corner to enter the ‘System Setup’ menu. (See Figure 1)

 2. Select the ‘Battery Setup’ to enter the ‘Batt’ page (See Figure 2).

a. Select the ‘Batt Capacity’ field on the touch screen and use the arrow buttons on the inverter to change the capacity value to match the current configuration of modules. Each Stacked Series battery module has a capacity of 100Ah

  1.  This number should match the total Ah capacity for the entire system configuration.

Example: Standalone system with 6 battery modules = 600Ah

Example: Parallel system with 4 stacks and 8 modules each = 3200Ah

Note: For system configurations with multiple Sol-Ark inverters connected in parallel, please enter this parameter on the designated ‘Master’ Sol-Ark inverter. All connected ‘slave’ unit inverters should inherit this value if communicating with the designated ‘Master’ inverter.

b. Change ‘Max A Charge’ & ‘Max A Discharge’. This parameter will vary; please check the system configuration with the following:

Battery system configuration (i.e., # of battery modules)

Modules (kWh)Max A Charge + Max A Discharge
2 Modules (9.6 kWh)
180A
3 Modules (14.4 kWh)
270A
4 Modules (19.2 kWh)300A
5 Modules (24 kWh)300A
6 Modules (28.8 kWh)300A
7 Modules (33.6 kWh)
300A
8 Modules (38.4 kWh)300A

Inverter (i.e., inverter model)

Sol-Ark Inverter
Max A Charge + Max A Discharge
Sol-Ark 8k185A
Sol-Ark 12k185A
Sol-Ark 15k275A

Wiring configuration (wiring gauge of interconnected device, i.e., BMS, Bus Combiners and inverters) Please consider using 4/0 cable for all system.

    i. Configurations like this would allow for future expansion for systems with less

        than 4 modules.

3. Next, select the ‘Charge’ tab found in ‘Batt Setup’. (See Figure 3)

    a. Verify ‘Float V, Absorption V, Equalization V’ are set to ‘53.2V’.

    b. If operating in ‘Open Loop’ set these parameters to ‘53.2V’.

    c. Press ‘OK’ to confirm changes.

Note: If operating in ‘Closed Loop’, these settings should autofill. If loss of communication occurs between the designated ‘Master’ BMS and the designated ‘Master’ inverter, the system will default to the last known settings in ‘Closed Loop’.

4. Select ‘Discharge’ tab on the ‘Batt Setup’. (See Figure 4)

    a. Change the % values for the following to the recommended settings.

        i. ‘Shutdown’ to ‘20%’ or User defined (level when battery system stops providing power).

ii. ‘Low Batt’ to ‘30%’ or User defined (level of battery system alert when running low).

iii. ‘Restart’ to ‘40%’ or User defined (level when battery system resumes providing power).

    b. Change ‘Batt Empty V’ to ‘44V’ (level when battery is considered ‘empty’)

    c. Press ‘OK’ to confirm changes.

Recommended battery settings are complete. Contact HomeGrid Support at 725-373-5350 if you need further assistance. Please contact Sol-Ark with any questions that are outside of the description of this guide.
