Pre-Setup Checklist

Note: Do not proceed with the next steps until all the following steps have been completed:

1. Ensure Your System is Up to Date

Before proceeding with attempting to put your system online, it is essential to ensure that its firmware is fully up to date.

  • Please refer to the HomeGrid Stack’d Series Firmware Update Guide first, which contains instructions on how to check and update your system's firmware. Ensuring your system is current helps prevent common issues and ensures smooth operation once online.

2. Confirm Wi-Fi Network Details

  • Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID): This is the exact name of your Wi-Fi network.
  • Wi-Fi Password: The password for your Wi-Fi Network.
  • Network Type: Please confirm that your network is a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.

Important: HomeGrid devices are only compatible with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and cannot connect to 5GHz networks.

HomeGrid Energy Account Setup

Note: If you already have an account, skip this step.

1. Download the HomeGrid Energy App

Find "HomeGrid Energy" in your app store and download it to your smartphone or tablet.

  • Available on Apple Appstore
  • Available for Android at https://www.pgyer.com/homegridenergy

Please Note for Android Users: The Android version is currently hosted on a third-party Play Store. While navigating the beta store, you may encounter advertisements. However, please be aware that the actual HomeGrid Energy app download will not require any signups or payment details before you can download the application itself.

2. Create Your Account

Open the HomeGrid Energy app. You will be prompted to create an account.

When creating your username, please note the following requirements:

  • Must not contain special characters (e.g., %, $, &).

Online Monitoring Setup

1. Connect the Skybox to the BMS Controller

Connect the communication cables between the Skybox interface and BMS Controller:

  • C-BOX-RS232 → Skybox ‘RS232’ port
  • MATE-Master-RS232 → BMS Controller ‘DBG RS232’ port
  • C-BOX-CAN\RS485 → Skybox ‘CAN\RS485’ port
  • MATE-Master-COM → BMS Controller ‘DBG COM’ port

Screw the included antenna onto the Wi-Fi Port on the Skybox.

Connect the power cable to the Skybox interface via the ‘Auxiliary Power’ port on the BMS Controller (Labeled as 'Hall Current' on older generation BMS Controllers).

  • This will power the Skybox, you should hear a beep and see a red power light.

ImportantIf the blue light begins repeatedly blinking after this step is completed, an update has started and we will need to wait for it to complete before we can proceed. Please refer to the HomeGrid Stack’d Series Firmware Update Guide if this occurs.

2. Connect the Skybox to the Wi-Fi

Starting in the 'Home' tab within the HomeGrid Energy App, select the 'Account' tab in the bottom right hand corner. Then from the 'Account' tab, select the button labeled 'Network'.

Select the picture of the Skybox, then select the button labeled 'Confirm'. Once you are in the Network screen, select the button labeled 'Next step'.

Before proceeding, locate the black button labeled 'Button' on the Skybox. Press and hold the button for ~5 seconds, or until you hear an audible beep, then release. This process will cause the Skybox to begin to broadcast its Wi-Fi hotspot.

Important:  Do not continue to hold as the next beep (~5 more seconds of holding) will clear the Skybox of its data/firmware.

Next, select the button labeled 'Connected, Next Step', which should take you to your device's Wi-Fi settings. If the Skybox is broadcasting its Wi-Fi correctly, you will see the network denoted with the Skybox serial number. Connect to the network, the password will be '12345678'.

Note: If you do not see the network or the password does not work, please contact HomeGrid support at support@lithionbattery.com.

After your device is connected to the Skybox's Wi-Fi hotspot, navigate back into the HomeGrid Energy App. It should automatically take you to the following screen, which will allow you to enter the Site's Wi-Fi Information.

Please Note:

  • Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID): This is the exact name of your Wi-Fi network.
  • Wi-Fi Password: The password for your Wi-Fi Network.
  • Network Type: Please confirm that your network is a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.

Select the confirm button once you are sure all of the information was entered correctly. You will see a screen that says 'Command Sent Successfully'. You can then close out of the app and reopen to bring you back to the home screen, the information has been sent to the Skybox.

3. Ensure Connectivity of Skybox to the Internet

After the Wi-Fi information has been sent to the Skybox, it will begin trying to connect to the Wi-Fi network. The indicator for this connection is the green LED on the front of the Skybox.

Off:  No Wi-Fi Connection Established

Solid Green: The Skybox has successfully connected to the network.

Flashing Green: The Skybox is successfully communicating with the HomeGrid Energy Server.

Once the Skybox is flashing green, reach out to the HomeGrid Support team (support@lithionbattery.com) for next steps.

Note: If the Skybox will not connect, verify that the network is 2.4GHz; if still unsuccessful, reach out to the HomeGrid Support team (support@lithionbattery.com) for next steps.
